SIR JOSHUA WILLIAMS.
RECIPIENT OF PRESENTATION. [BY telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. This afternoon Sir Joshua Williams was presented by the legal profession of New Zealand with a solid silver salver and a pair of massive silver candelabra in celebration of the knighthood conferred on him. Among those present were Sir Robert Stout, all the Supreme Court judges at present in Wellington, and Mr. G. W. Riddell, S.M., the leading members of the legal profession, members of the Legislative Council, members of Parliament, and others. Hon. 11. D. Bell made the presentation, and said the idea Lad originated in Canterbury, where His Honor had first practised his profession, and the desire of the Canterbury Society had met with ready acquiescence throughout New Zealand. They hoped that for many years he would retain his position on the Bench, and assured him ho would never lose the place ho had gained in the affections of those who best knew him as a man and a judge. Mr. J. H. Hosking, KG, on behalf of the Otago Law Society, endorsed Mr. Bell's remarks. Sir Joshua suitably replied.
