THE ONEHUNGA ZOO.
j Reckntlt a petition signed by the Mayor ! of Onehunga and 135 others was forwarded to Wellington suggesting that legislation be framed to deal with th© licensing of the Zoological Gardens by local todies. This petition was generally looked upon as a strong move directed against the Onehunga Zoo, and a counter petition signed by over 3000 persons was immediately sent to Wellington in favour of the. gardens. Last evening a letter was received by the- Onehunga Borough Council from the Hon. If. I). Bell to th© effect that the Government after considering tho first-mentioned petition had decided that it could not take action. The Zoo was Mr. Boyd's private property, and if it became a nuisance those offended by it could take action in tie Court.
