THE EMIGRATION QUESTION.

London, October lb. The Imperial Trade Commission which opened its sittings yesterday, will occupy a fortnight in investigating the question of emigration in relation to overseas development.
The New South Wales and New Zealand emigration representatives were examined to-day, and the West Australian, Queensland, and South Australian, representatives will give their evidence next week.
Sir J. W. Taverner (Agent-General for Victoria), in evidence before the Commission, gave details of ' the Victorian policy system of ' selection of immigrants. - He favoured the creation of an Immigration Department under the Secretary for the Colonies.
Mr. T. E. Donne (of the New Zealand High Commissioner's Office) gave evidence on behalf of New Zealand. Re advocated the licensing of emigration agents and . societies, stating that at. present there was much misrepresentation and deception.
