NEXT YEAR'S EXHIBITION

A POSTAL NOVELTY. THE GOVERNMENT DISPLAYS. One of the most interesting of the Government exhibits at the forthcoming Auckland Exhibition will probably be a postal novelty—suggested by the postal authoritiesto take the form of a post office, every detail of the working of which will be performed as nearly as possible automatically, including tho sale of stamps, cancellation, and receipt of. telegrams. This prospective concession will be additional to the privilege already granted of allowing the use of a cancellation stamp on all outward correspondence passing through the Auckland Post Office. A feature will probably be one of the new automatic telephones, the ringing up being done through the medium of a disc containing the various numerals. Messrs. Elliot and Holmes saw one of these in operation in Wellington, a.nd were much impressed with it.

The Minister for Mines (Hon. W. Eraser) promised to do all in his power to arrange an exhibit. The Tourist Department will make its usual display, including photographs of and literature relating to the scenic attractions and commercial resources of the Dominion. The Minister for Customs (Hon. F. M. B. Fisher) also promised to do what ho could to contribute towards the exhibits, and promised a fine painting showing the New Zealand Dreadnought being towed out of Plymouth Harbour. As regards railway facilities for special services and excursions, an assurance was received from the Minister (Hon. W. H. Herries) that everything possible would be done in the interests of visitors and the carriage of exhibits. Already carpenters are at work on the grounds pegged out for the Exhibition in the Domain grounds. Plans for the buildings will be finally revised , by the Building Committee on Tuesday next.
