A man named Albert Large was crossing Queen-street last evening, when ho was knocked down by a tramcar. Owing to the promptitude of Motorman Murphy in pulling the car up he escaped without injury. The export of coal from Newcastle during the month of August to places beyond the State shows an increase of ']21,656 tons, as compared with the quantity for the corresponding month last year. Of" the total quantity 221,804 tons wore sent to Commonwealth and New Zealand ports, and 272,893 tons to foreign ports. '
A meeting of tho recently-formed Christchurch women's branch of the Reform League was held last night (says a Press Association message). It was decided to apply to the New Zealand executive for a charter for the branch. A message was sent to Mr. Massev congratulating him upon attaining the high position of Prime Minister, expressing appreciation of what ho had done, and hoping that ho would continue in ofhco for many years.
