In the presence of a crowd of some 5000 people tho League game New Southw ales v. liawko's (Bay was played on the Recreation Ground to-day in splendid weather. The exhibition of the visitors was in many respects a revelation, .and, although tney won bv a large margin, of points, the score hardly indicates tho nature of the game. The local men put tip a surprisingly good fight trains the superior combination of the visitors, and their tackling was exceedingly good. The game was remarkably tree ! from any element of roughness and was i played in admirable spirit throughout. The score at half-time was: New South i Wales, 18; Hawke's Bay, 3. Tries were scored for tho visitors by Gleeson. David (2), and Cann. Frawley converting three. Johnstone scored l'or Hawke's Bay. In the second spell Deune, Frawley (3), Gleeson, and McCue spored tries for tho visitors. Frawley converting three of them. Cotterell and Smith scored for the homo team, but in neither case did a. goal result. Tho final scores read: New South ales, 42: Hawke's Bay, 9. Mr. 1). McCarthy refereed. " Haddocks and McGreg v sustained minor injuries during the gaim, and Thompson had his collarbone broken. Manning (Hawke's Bay) had to retire owing to a broken thumb. AUCKLAND RUGBY LEAGUE. Tlio Auckland Rugby League held its weekly meeting last evening. Mr. B. Brigham occupying the chair. Present: Messrs. Powell. Tuck, Phelan. McDonald, Campbell. Tonkin, Jackson, 6. Child, I/ory, Hunt, and Liversidge. , , Permission was granted to the Ponsonby United first juniors to journey to Hamilton to play a match ' against tho Hamilton juniors on Saturday. , It was decided to play a match between Ponsonby United seconds and a combined junior team as a curtain-raiser to tho match between Auckland and New South Wales on the 21st inst. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. The junior Association football teams in connection with 1 the Y.M.C.A. met at a supper in tho association's rooms last evening. Various toasts were proposed and responded to, eulogistic references being made during the coarse of tho evening to tne splendid season's record of the teams. Special mention was made of the fifth grade team, which scored 75 goals and had only three goals recorded against it. Mr. It. L. Stewart presided over the gathering.
