ROTO ROA ISLAND.
REPORT BEING OBTAINED. [BY TELEGRAPH— CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday. The Minister for Justice (Hon. A. L. Herdman) made a statement to-day about the recent allegations concerning the conduct of the Inebriates' Home at Roto Roa Island. " When my attention was called to the letters that have been written to the papers," eaid Mr. Herdraanj " I communicated with the Under-Secretary for Justice and directed him to request Mr. C. C.. Ketfcie, senior stipendiary magistrate at Auckland, to pay a visit to the island and furnish me with a report at his earliest convenience. I propose to go to Auckland with the Prime Minister after the session for the purpose of inspecting prisons and the police, and if time permits I will take the opportunity of visiting Roto Roa and Pakatoa in order to satisfy myself about the ' conditions obtaining there."
