THE CHEVIOT RAILWAY.

Tire Cheviot railway, the first sod of which was turned by the Hon. Sir W. Hall-Jones on March 28, 1900, was extended last week to tho new railhead at Parnassus. The last piece of the extension is six miles 24 chains from Mina, and includes the stations of Spotswood and Phoebe. The total line now formed from Waipara is about 42 miles somewhat short line to occupy over 12 years in the making. The new section includes the long bridge for road and railway traffic over the Waiau River. The first passenger train run into the new undulating sheep country was met by Mr. C. Legg, who is in chargo of the station. The line has tapped a piece of country which it appears will have decided attractions for agriculturists.
