OTAHUHU RATEPAYERS' ASSOCIATION.
!Aj meeting of the Otahuhu Ratepayers' Association was held in tho Masonic Hall on Friday night. Mr. J. Wilson (president) occupied tho chair, and there was a large attendance. Tho secretary (Mr. Saunders) read a letter from tho Rev. 11. Mason, gratefully acknowledging the resolution of the association in support of hid application to tho Road Board tor a reduction of the charge for water supply to St. Mary's Home, on tho ground that it was a charitable institution open to all denominations. Mr. J. (Jarr said there was a strong feeling in the township that there should bo a free supply of water to St. Mary's Home. It was said, however, that the Road Board should bo just before being charitable, and ho did not think it would do to grant a free supply. Ho, however, would be one to help pay for a. free supply to the homo. Mr. T. Whi'teley called attention to the state of tho borough finances, remarking tiu,t there was now an overdraft of over £600. Ho moved that, a statement of tho financial position of tho township be laid on tho table for the next meeting. Mr. J. Salt said there had always been an overdraft since ho had been a member of the Board. Mr. J. Carr seconded the motion, which was adopted On tho motion of Mr. Salt, seconded by Mr! Grant, the secretary was instructed to write to tho Road Board for information as to why scoria had not been placed on certain Btreet3 according to an order of the Board made a month ago.
