THE WOOL TARIFF BILL.

Washington, August 14. The House of Representatives, by 174 votes to 80, favoured the overriding of President Taft's veto of Senator La Follette's Wool Tariff Bill.

The Speaker (Mr. Champ Clark) ruled that the veto was overridden, inasmuch as there was a two-thirds majority of those actually voting.

Hitherto a two-thirds majority of the whole House was considered necessary.

THE STEEL BILL VETOED

A REVENUE MEASURE

Washington, August 14.

President Taft vetoed the Steel Bill on the,ground that the measure did not afford protection to American industries, but was merely intended for revenue purposes. . Mr. Taft condemns the Ways and Means Committee because the Committee refused a public hearing before passing the Bill.

THE ARMY BILL.

CANADIAN RECIPROCITY

REPEALED.

Washington, August 15.

The Senate has passed an Army Appropriation Bill, replacing the Bill vetoed by President Taft.

As the new Bill omits any provision for dismissing General Wood as Chief .of Staff, Mr. Taft will veto it, and in consequence of the veto, the Army Services will be left without funds.

The Senate has passed the Cotton Bill, a Democratic measure, with an amendment repealing the Canadian Reciprocity Bill, except as regards pulp and paper.
