SUICIDE.

MARRIED WOMAN'S SAD DEATH.

Scsakah Atkinson, aged 28 years, wife of Jabez Atkinson, gardener in the employ of the City Council, committed suicide yesterday by: cutting her throat with a carving knife.

Atkinson went to work yesterday morning as usual, and at noon the neighbours saw Mrs. Atkinson about the house. At about 4.30 p.m. a neighbour, wishing to sec her, knocked at the door, but got no response. When Atkinson entered the house, on his vreturn from work, he was ■horrified to see his wife lying dead, with her throat cut and a carving knife at her side. Dr. Cowan was called in, but could only pronounce life to be extinct, and the body of the deceased was removed to the Coroner's Court. An inquest will be held by the City Coroner (Mr. T. Gresham) at 10.30 a.m. this morning.

The deceased left a not© saying that her husband was in no way to blame. No reason can . be assigned for the woman's rash act, but it is understood that she was very delicate, and suffered from insomnia. About. 18 months ago, it is stated, she made a similar attempt on her life, but recovered after treatment at the hospital.

The deceased leaves two little " girls, aged 5 and 10. years respectively.
