MOTOR SPEED LIMIT.
XBWAJARKET'S NEW BY-LAW
Tin; Auckland Automobile Association intimated to the Newmarket Borough Council last evening that it was not quite satisfied with the new by-law, which provides that the speed limit for motor cars past any tramway stopping-place within the borough should be live miles an hour. The letter went on to point out that the Council previously had the power to prosecute any person driving at an unreasonable speed at any place, thus being provided for in the Motor Regulations Act, 1908. The association added that it was anxious that the reasonable speed regulations should bo rigidly enforced, and it was of the opinion, that it was owing to laxity in this direction that reckless driving was indulged in by some motorists. The. association requested that the by-law should be made to apply only to that part of the borough extending from the corner of Khyber Pass to the corner of Remuera- Road.
As the by-law had been adopted by.the Council at a previous special meeting, its decision could not be altered.
