LEGION OF FRONTIERSMEN
STAFF OFFICERS APPOINTED.
UNIFORM DECIDED UPON.
At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Auckland Council (if the Legion of Frontiersmen, Commandant Allen Bell submitted a list of his headquarters staff officers as follows Chief Staff Officer. Captain Colheck ; Assistant AdjutantGeneral, Captain Collier.; Assistant Quar-master-General, Captain \V. J. Wheeler; Principal Medical .Officer, Surgeon-Cap-tain Mackenzie; Chief Instructor, Captain Forbes Eadio; Chaplain attached, Rev, 11. Mason; District Sanitary Officer, Sur-geon-Captain Fullarton. Tho appointments, which are. entirely honorary, were unanimously approved, and the Commandant was congratulated upon having secured .such able men for the positions. The command leaders, will of course, bo elected hv the commands themselves.
Tho meeting discussed the question of uniforms, and examined a sample submitted. It, was decided to adopt the Garibaldi shirt-tunic in greenish brown khaki, of tho pattern submitted, bearing the, letters L.F. in bronze on the shoulder straps, the. Stetson typo of hat, ridingpants in cord, and pigskin leggings with the running strap. It was also agreed to adopt; the waist cartridge belt with pistol bolster.
The type of arms was not finally decided, but the opinion was generally experienced that the automatic pistol should take tho place of the revolver which had been adopted by the English, Far East, and Canadian commands of the Legion prior to the advent of the automatic weapon, while tho rifle would require to be of as light a type as consistent with efficiency.
The meeting resolved to have a tent at the various agricultural shows in the province, with an officer in attendance to answer inquirer?, distribute literature. etc.
A sub-committee was set up to arrange a camp smoke social in honour of Honorary Provincial Commandant W. F. Massey, the Prime Minister, on the occasion of his first official visit to the province.
It was announced that, as the result of a meeting at Ngaruawahia, fifty men had applied for enrolment forms on the active sen-ice list, bringing the total of those who have either sent in applications or have signified their intention of doing so, to well over 500 in the Auckland district.
-An announcement was made to the meeting that a committee was now being formed in Wellington to start a command of the Legion there, and it was resolved to convey fraternal greetings to that committee.
