Rotorita, Thursday. Tut; Rotorua Chamber of Commerce met Inst night. The president (Mr. J. Stewart) staled that lit" hud requested the Minister for Railways (Hon W. 11. Merries) to allow Rotonia residents an opportunity of expressing their views on the subject of (be Taupo Totara Timber Company's proposals for the extension of their private line from Mokai to Tauj)o. Mr. Hemes had replied that, lie would advise the Chamber as Ito the date of the bearing of the petition. Mr. Stewart said that they had spent n lot of time and. money in combating the proposal last year. There was every reason why they should strongly work against it. It. was decided that in the event, of possible developments before next meeting, the executive should, be empowered to take whatever action they might think advisable to combat the Taupo Totara Timber Company's proposal. The Rotorua, County Council, at its I meeting yesterday, supported the proposal to have the present, charge of 6d on all bureau connections per medium of private ] telephonic, lines reduced to 3d.
