PROGRESS OF TAMAKI WEST

BIG IMPROVEMENT SCHEME.

.WATER' SUPPLY .AND ROADS

A big scheme of improvement, winch includes loading, water supply, and drainage for tho Tainaki West/ district., has been prepared by tho Road Beard. The scheme will necessitate tho raisins of special loans to the extent of £36,200. One of the proposals is to raise a loan of £19,000. Of this amount it is proposed to allocate £550 to improve and metal (he main road to St. Ueliers, from the Remnera, boundary to tho effico of tho Road Board. For improving, forming, and metalling the main road to St. Heliei'3 from tho Board's office to tho wharf, tho sum of £3400 is proposed to ho allocated. The sum of £2700 is set down for the improving of Long Drive, and £1000 for forming and making a road from Kohimarama Wharf round the cliff on the east side, while £2000 is proposed to bo allocated for tho improving and metalling of Kohimarama Road, and a similar amount for forming, grading, and metalling Line Road. Various sums are set down for improving other roads in tho district. One of the most important proposals in connection with tho above loan is that for erecting a retaining wall, at a cost of £3000, along the foreshore, and making a promenade at St. Ueliers Bav.

For the providing of a water supply for the district, it is proposed to raise a loan of £10,000. This amount would to expended in erecting a reservoir and laying mains, besides other charges for engineering, etc.

The sum proposed to be raised for drain age works is £6000.

It is also proposed to raise a special loan of £1200 for roadmaking at Kobimarama Wharf. This would be for forming and milking a road along high water mark, from Waipareira Road to the Kohimarania Wharf.

A. meeting of ratepayers of the Tainaki West district will bo held this evening to discuss tho above proposals, and a poll will be taken to-morrow in connection with each of the four schemes.
