POLICE COURT NEWS.
Mb. E. Rawson, S.M., presided at the sitting of the -Police Court on Saturday. Henry Dawson Critchlcy was charged with assaulting Frederick Lees, a, porter at the Thistle Hotel. The accused, who pleaded that, ho had no remembrance of the affair, was fined £2. or in default, sewn days in gaol. Frank Gordon, charged with assaulting a- porter at the Wavcrley Hotel, was similarly dealt with. Charges of drunkenness and of being an idle and disorderly person, inasmuch as he solicited alms in Queen-street, were preferred against John Hayes. He admitted both charges, and was sentenced to two months' hard labour. George Kinny. an old man, also charged with soliciting alms, was convicted and discharged. For insobriety three first offenders, one a female, were eaeh fined 6s. On a charge of being drunk while in. charge of a. horse and cart in Customs-street, Frederick William Craig was fined £1. Jessie McLeod, an elderly woman with a very bad record, was charged with soliciting and also with being an incorrigible. rogue. She was sentenced to two years' hard labour.
