THE ALBANY INCIDENT
The question of whether Mr. A. Harris, M.P. for Waitemata, was present at the Albany function on June 19 (when the Hon. T. Mackenzie, then Prime Minister, visited the district) as a guest or as representative of the district, formed the subject of a lengthy discussion at a meeting of the Albany Fruitgrowers' Association on Wednesday night, Mr. T. Foley, who presided, said that Mr. Harris was included amongst those invited, and yet according to a published letter of Mr. Knight, Mr. Harris, as representative of the district, was refused the courtesy of being allowed to view the Crown lands on that occasion. Mr. Foley moved, " That the members of the association disapprove Mi*. Knight's action in publishing that he refused to allow Mr. Harris to go in tho motor car to visit the Crown lands in the district." After considerable discussion as to whether Mr. Knight or the association had paid for tho hire of the motor car, and as to tho capacity in which Mr. Harris was present at the function, an amendment that Mr. Knight's action be approved was carried by 11 votes to 10.
