Paull, of Timaru, was appointed.

COMPLAINTS REGARDING STREETS.

Complaints were received in regard to the state of some of the city streets. The Auckland Harbour Board drew attention to the state of the road from Beaumont, streen to Patteson-street, while F. D. Woodroffe and Co. stated that the condition of Mill Lane Road was such that they were unable to use their goods entrance. At present one of the company's waggons was up to the axles in mud, and the carters were removing the load by hand. These two complaints, and

another in regard to water collecting at the corner of Queen and Victoria Streets, were referred to the Works Committee. The Mayor of Parnell (Mr. R. S. Briggs) and two members of the Parnell Council waited upon the Council in reference to their request that they be granted the services of the city landscape gardener (Mr. Pearson) for the purpose of assisting them in the laying-out of the Campbell's Point arid Point Resolution Reserves. Their desire was that a certain amount of continuity should be kepi in regard to the parks of Greater Auckland. Very little of Mr. Pearson's time would be taken up. On the motion of Messrs. Gleeson and Mackay, the request was. granted. The United Labour party forwarded a resolution to the effect that it having come to the party's knowledge that, notwithstanding the" Gazette notice prohibiting the private treaty for the Orakei native lands, a private syndicate is endeavouring to secure the option of a portion of the estate, the City Council be requested to take the necessary steps to prevent the transfer. The letter was referred to the Orakei Committee.
