THE THAMES WATERMEN.

[from 'our own correspondent.] London, June 7. The watermen and lightermen of the Thames are an aristocracy by reason of a very ancient charter. Henry VIII., in his many-sided activity, granted to the Watermen . and Lightermen's Company the right to hold general courts, and to make by-laws for the regulation of boats and barges on the river, and for the conduct of the men navigating them. The rights of this company have been steadily conserved and brought up to date since the introduction of steam, and the watermen and lightermen can generally sit quietly back with folded arms and not worry about the troubles of others.
