DEMONSTRATION FOR CHILDREN.

It is expected that Arbor Day will be more widely observed in Auckland in the future, a . start in ; that direction having been wade at the : Domain yesterday. E. * Pearson). The Acting-'Mayor (Mr. John Court) and Messrs. J?. E. Gaudin, and J. Ti-cvi-thick, members of the City Council, were present, and, prior to the actual treeplanting, addressed the children. Mr. Const said that Arbor Day,, as far as Auckland was ; concerned, had ■ been almost a dead-letter for some years. Thanks, howeve», to the efforts of the City Schools Committee, interest in the day was to be revived, and he'hoped that in future years., not only the children he saw before him,, but, a great number from, all the schools in the vicinity of Greater Auckland would .bo present at such gatherings >as were being ; inaugurated that day. -

Mr. Gaudin deprecated ; the feet that tlifire was toot more interest ' shown in Arbor_Day, but said lie was optimistic ill regard to the filfcviro. ;

Short addresses were also delivered by Messrs. Ticvithick and Canharo. The nature-of the 24 trees to be planted was explained by Sir. Pearson; arid then an adjournment was made to the actual planting ground, a epot on the outer Domain, above the ponds.
