ARBOR DAY.
-1 :' ' OBSERVANCE IN. AUCKLAND. Arbor Day will be celebrated to-day. In the past the occasion has not been very {widely observed, but this year arrangements have been made for a closer observance. In Auckland the matter is in the hands of the City Schools Committee. At 2.30 p.m. pupils of: tho four city schools will assemble and march to the j Exhibition rite in the Domain, when Mr. Pearson, the city landscape gardeneir, will plant about two dozen trees, iat the same time demonstrating to the ''children the correct method of planting. 'An address dealing with the value of tree-planting and the need for encouragement of the observance of Arbor Day will also be given. In addition to members of the Auckland City Schools Committee, members of the City Council will be present at the ceremony, which will take the nature of a civic function. In other parts of the Dominion the au thorities are recognising the day in a similar manner.
