HOCKEY.

THE COMING SHIELD MATCH. At a late hour on Tuesday evening the secretary of the Auckland Association received a telegram from the Canterbury Association stating that the Auckland-Canter-bury shield match would mobably bo played at Christchurch on Thursday, July 18, or Saturday, Jul}' 20. In consoquenee of this information the selector has decided to hold an A and B trial match on Saturday. All iho senior matches in the A section arc postponed, but the- senior matches in the 33 section will be played as usual. All junior and ladies' mutches will ci course bo played. The trial match will lxj played at "Victoria Turk, and play will commence punctually at three p.m. Any player unable to attend is asked to communicate with the secretary of tho association immediately. The members of the A team are requested to wear representative jerseys, and the B team white. Following are the teams: — . A team: Goal, C. Ilallam; fullbacks, H. B. Speight, E. R. Jacobsen; halfbacks, V. C. Kavanagh D. K. Porter, L. G. Robinson; forwards, J. B. Reynolds, R. W. Barry. H. W. King, Mahoncy, N. K. Jacobsen. B team: Goal, W. Allen ; fullbacks, T. G. Jackson, C. King (Mount Eden); forwards, Whittaker, MacFarlane, Burton. WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION. The results of yesterday's matches wore as follows: — Kiatoro A defeated Albion by 3 goals to 2: Arawa boat Kiatoro Bby 4 goals to 2. The principal match, between those old rivals, Kiatoro and Albion, was watched by a largo crowd, and a very keen game resulted. At half-time Kiatore led by two to nil, Bunker and Duff being the scorers. Early in tho second spell Parker scored for Albion from a scramble, and shortly afterwards Smytho equalised the scores. Both teams then made tho pace, and with five minutes to go Durham placed Kiatere in the lead with a nice shot; Kiatoro then hold tho upporhand till tho finish. Mr. Noonan had charge of the game.

CAMBRIDGE ASSOCIATION. [BY TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Wednesday. A ma.tch was played at Leamington today between Leamington and Te Awamutu, which resulted in a win for the former by four goals to one. Tho position of the teams playing under the Cambridge Hockey Association at the conclusion of the second round is Leamington 13 points, Roto-o-rangi A NEW LADIES' CLUB. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Te Akoha, Wednesday. At one of tho largest and most enthusiastio meetings over held at Manawaru it was decided to form a ladies' hockey club. Tho following officers were elected: Patron, Mrs. M. Crotiin; president, Mra. G. • E. White; vice-presidents, Misses Koaney, Hirst, Fitzgerald, Cowley, Clark, Hughes, McLaren, JUcoman, Neave, Kiely, W. N. Bridgeman, R. Wright, Thackray, W. Osborne, Orr, Brady, Gibbons, Lockeyer, Hintz, Farmer, Hogan, Highson,.McSweeney, Smith, Sutton, McNicol, ,W. and F. Hughes, and N. Findlay. It was unanimously decided that Miss McLaren be secretary of tho club. Mr. G. E. White donated tho first trophy for competition.
