BRITAIN AND FRANCE.
A SUGGESTED ALLIANCE.
IS THE ENTENTE BETTER?
SOME NEWSPAPER VIEWS.
By Celeiiaph.-Press AMOciatkra.-Oopyright,. London, May 27. A suggestion that . the entente cordiale between Great Britain and France should become an alliance has been made by the Morning Post, and has aroused widespread comment. The Spectator cordially advocates the proposal. The Paris correspondent •of the Times, in discussing the question, says that the entente is much more effective as a deterrent than an alliance except upon the basis of an overwhelming land force, which is not available. The Manchester Guardian considers that an alliance is unnecessary, and thinks that it is unwise to make the international situation more unstable by greatly extending the war area. THE FEELING IN PARIS. Paris, May 27. The Temps approves of the discussion regarding the suggested Anglo-French alliance, but insists that neither side should propose anything which will increase obligations without adequate compensation. Other French papers are cautious in regard to the subject.
