THE CITY'S ADMINISTRATION.

MAYOR ON REORGANISATION.

The matter of tho reorganisation of the engineer's and town clerk's departments of tho City Council is to be thoroughly gone into, and the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) has determined to see the work carried to a successful issue. In response to a question by a Herald representative yesterday, Mr. Parr said that, having got rid of the accumulated work of the Council, tho time had arrived for the reorganisation of the departments referred to. He felt that the question of reorganisation was so important that it should take precedence over other matters. " Personally," said Mr. Parr, "I do not intend to spare myself in the task of putting the affairs of, the Council's departments in ship-shape order. I have not the slightest doubt that councillors generally will share this feeling. The Mayor stated that the reorganisation of the departments would involve a good deal of time, and probably meetings of the members of the Council -would have to be held nightly for some days to come to consider the matter. Ho did not think however, that anyone would grudge the time spent in carrying out such an im- ! portant reform in the interests of the city.
