HEROISM HONOURED

Prior to the commencement of the usual business at the meeting of the Mount Edeu Borough Council last night, tho Mayor, Mr. 0. Nicholson, presented the Royal Humane Society's silver medal and certificate of honour to Mr. Herbert Victor Baker. Mr. Baker, it will be remembered, was responsible for a conspicuous act of bravery on December 7 last, ou which occasion he entered a blazing building in Eden-sfcreet, and .at great personal risk succeeded in rescuing a child. Mr. Nicholson., in presenting the certificate and medal, said that Mr. Baker's deed was fully deserving of the recognition it received.

Mr. Charles 11. Tanfieid was presented with a Royal Humane Society's certificate at last meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council. The Mayor (Mr. M. J. Coylo), in making the presentation, referred to the brave act of Mr. Tanfieid in September last, when he rescued a child from drowning in tho Cabbage Tree Swamp, Kingsland, at great risk to himself.
