Tho bitterness which has developed between the adherents of President Taft and I Mr. Rooaevelt was illustrated at a Republi- ! can State Convention held at Bay City (Michigan), on April 11. Tho "Taftites" gained early possession of the Armoury, in which tho convention was held, and refused admission to their political opponents. The " Itoosevelters " then rushed the doors, and climbed in through the windows. When tho chairman of the "Taftites" tried to call the meeting to order the. Roosevelt loader leaped. on to the platform and began to speak.- A "Taftito" thereupon threw him off tho platform, and this was the signal for a free fight among tho audience. Finally the polios and militia had to be called in to restore order. After choosing the Roosevelt delegation to tho National Convention, the " Rooseveltera" finally withdrew. The " Taftites ".. then selected a rival delegation to the National" Convention, which will have to decide 'between them.
