DILUTED MILK.
A DAIRYMAN CHARGED, A case of some interest to dairymen was heard before Mr. E. C Cutten, S.M., at the Police Court, yesterday, when Robert Eccles, a Papatoetoe farmer, was proceeded against under the Food and Drugs Act. The case was a sequel to a prosecution in March of last year, when Benjamin Andrews, an Auckland milk-vendor, was charged with selling milk slightly below the standard. On this occasion Andrews stated that he had obtained the milk from Eccles, who had guaranteed its purity. The latter was proceeded against on two charges yesterday, his defence being in the hands of Mr. McGregor. The first cliarge was dismissed, His Worship upholding Mr. McGregor's contention that a portion of the sample of milk which caused proceedings to be instituted should have teen sent to defendant. On the second charge a fine of £5, with ; costs amounting to 25s 6d, was imposed. In giving his decision, His Worship' pointed out that the Act aimed, at impressing upon milk-vendors the -need" lot such extreme caution' being exercised that the addition of water by accident should | not occur. To. show that no water had been added with "the cogruaance of the' (Vendor, didgnfe constitute & defence. :■
