SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Invercabgiix, Saturday. Tho provincial conference of the Southland branch of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday. The Conference approved of the agreement entered into between the Waterside Workers' Union and the Farmers' Union. It also approved of the territorial defence scheme, and resolved that the Hon. A. M. Myerg be congratulated on the firm stand he has taken in administering the law. A remit from the executive to the effect that in view of the recent movement of tho Labour party the time is opportune for the Farmers' Union to reconsider its attitude in regard to politics was affirmed. Several resolutions in regard to the Land Act, sent forward by the executive, were re-affirmed. A remit from Mataura Island, " That the Local Government Bill is against the interests of the country people, and that the union should seek to prevent it passing," was negatived. It was also decided "that Conference is of opinion that Parliament should be urged to remove the mortgagees' indemnity fee under the Workers' Liability Act."
