New York, May 25. In connection with the strike rioting at Lawrence (Massachusetts), where a number of persons were killed during charges by the police, one of the union leaders, in a letter,
says that some of the strikers arc standing their trial on charges of inciting riots. " The Socialist organisations," he adds, " declare that if the accused are found guilty a complete change will occur in the methods of Socialists throughout the United States. Henceforward bombs and bullets will be used against society until justice is achieved."
ALLEGED I.W.W. MURDER PLOT AGAINST DIEGO OFFICIALS. New York, May 24. A plot was- revealed to the police at San Diego (California) that six armed members of the Industrial Workers of the World, have been selected by lot to shoot down the Mayor and other civic officials of SanDiego, where the Industrial Workers were prevented from entering by physical force. ' Several arrests have been made. THE DEFENCE OP SAN DIEGO. The Industrial Workers of the World, a weil-known socialistic organisation (chiefly composed of unskilled labourers) hay© a habit of occasionally paying visits in largo numbers to certain centres, and demanding to be fed and generally terrorising the inhabitants. Thoy planned an expedition of this kind to San Diego early last month, hut the people of that city were prepared for them. Armed citizens and deputy constables,, sworn in for the purpose, met parties of the intending visitors at the county line, and marched them back again. One party of nearly 100 " industrial workers " was met at Onofre, which is within San Diego County," by a very determined band of citizens andSconstables. who before escorting the men beyond the county line forced them to pay homage to the American flag. In the grey dawn they were made- to knoel on the ground and kiss the folds of the Stars and Stripes. The " industrial workers." who, it is said, admitted they arc anarchists, performed the ceremony most unwillingly. As they were marched back thoy were compelled also to make at least a show of joining in the singing of" Tho Star-spangled Banner.
