POLICE COURT NEWS.

ALLEGED THEFT OF WIRE. A touxg man, Cecil John Renwick, appeared before Mr. E. 0. Cutten at tho Police Court on Saturday, charged with stealing two tons of fencing wire, valued at £25, from John Burns and Co. On the application of Chief-Detective Marsack accused was remanded to appear on Thursday.

AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. Annie Strange, charged with having performed an illegal operation, was further remanded until Tuesday. The subject of the operation is- now out of danger, and bail was granted the accused in two sureties of £150 each. DRUNKENNESS. For a breach of his orobibiticn order, Henry Taylor war. fined £2, or seven days. A one-legged man, Robert Carroll, was let off with the caution that his next lapse would result in the imposition of a prohibition order. Margaret Woods and John West were each fined 10s, or 48 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness, while one first offender, who failed to appear, was ordered to forfeit his £1 bail. MISCELLANEOUS. For committing an indecent act in Cookstreet, Edward Rigby, a young labouring man, was fined £2, in default three days. Alfred Hail, charged with stealing the sum of £6 19s 3d from Edmund George Jonet at Hawora, was remanded to appear on Wednesday.
