Specialist and Bingana collided, both losing ground, Specialist coming oft' worst. Royal Victor continued to force the. pace along the back and crossing the top .stretch, followed, as well as could be. seen in the, darkness, by Undine and Bingana. Over the concluding stages a great finish ensued, resulting in a head victory for Undine over Royal Victor, a neck after whom came Ngaraima. Bingana was fourth. Time, 2m. 22 3-bs. - • I NOTES ON THE TROTTING. i ■ ' ■• | .Taken all round, the trotting was of a high Order and, without, doubt, much in advance of any meeting yet brought off in Auckland. Only in two instances did winning horses register over 2m. 30s. to the mile, and in these races the horses covered the journey in much faster time than the limit set for their class. A. useful horse was brought into the' limelight in Airana, who followed up his success of tne opening day by carry. ing off two more races, registering fast times and returning good dividends. The opening event of the daythe .Members' Handicap (eaadle) — out 13 contestants, with King of Diamonds a much better favourite than, Beit, Miss Judy, Miss Ethel, and George Fifth.. The. favourite and Miss Ethel were in the van until the straight was reached, when part or lh;> former's gear carried away, and Miss Ethel won from the last-finishing Belle of the Ball. Both first and second mares returned remunerative dividend?, the latter tho larger. A quintette lined up for tire Hill Trot (harness), with Kotiri in better demand than Lady Wilmington, Lady Doctor, and Merry Kate. Half-a-miie from home Lady Doctor, who was in the lead, faulted badly, and Lady Wilmington then took charge and won comfortably. •A first-rate lot of horses went out for the April Handicap (harness) of two miles, and Ghoam carried more money than Bingana, Maudcrcne, Airana, or St. Michael. A fine race was witnessed up the straight, but just as St. Michael appeared to hold his rivals sate lie broke,'as did Airana. 'Xhe latter settled down . quickly and won by a bare couple of lengths irom the favourite, with St. Michael close up third. When the horses pulled up it was seen that St. Michael had experienced exceptionally bad luck, and undoubtedly should have' won on his performance but for "his number cloth having come adrift. This latter', in falling off. got caught by the. near sulkv wheel, and was twisted round the hub so tightly that the wheel locked, thus greatly hampering St. Michael in the final burst up the straight. Mandereno wax *l"w to begin, but, all the same, he. had little ch..occ of conceding 17s. to Airana. Robex was tho only withdrawal from the Autumn Handicap (saddle), leaving in 15. Loid Victor went out at odds-on, with Stop It, Prince Berlin, Sylvie, Lord - Specialist, and Bay Patchen backed in the order written. The race resolved itself into a stirring' struggle between, the favourite and Prince. Berlin, and the latter won by half-a-length, with Lord Specialist third; Gwelo was a little better supported than Annoyed in a field of 11 for the Manukau Handicap (harness), with Count, Olivette, George Firth, Golconda. and Special Flower most marketable of the others. A good race saw Lady Specialist, an outsider, win from Olivette, with Special Flower third. A long-priced dividend was returned by the winner. The scratch horse, the. two-year-old Golconda, trotted well, notwithstanding a couple of disappointments, but he was set an impossible task by the handieappcr. Woodmount, Gray A\"., Lady Wilmington. Monotype, and Specialty was the' order of betting in field of eight for" the Adams Memorial Handicap (harness). Srlvie badlv interfered with Lady Wilmington nt the post, and Mr. F. McManemin (starter) called back - the six horses he had despatched, although Specialty completed all but 1 a furlong of the course before being persuaded . that it was "no start," and for this her jockey was fined £2. When it came to finally disposing of the raw, Specialty, notwithstanding her pre., vious effort, proved- equal'to winning in good style'from Gray W., with Sylvie third. A good quality field of nine contested the, Barn Handicap (saddle), one mile and a-half, with most money available tor Papanui, Miss Bell Boy, Monica. Good Friday, and Kirikiriroa. When half the journey had been left, behind Airana (who was penalised *ss. for his previous win) dashed into the lead, and. holding his own from this on, von nicelv from the fast-finishing Kirikiriroa in 3m. 31 2-sg. This time is a new track record for Auckland, displacing the 3m. 37 2-ss. standing to tho credit, of Irvy Woodburn. ,'-.-,; » The concluding event of. the day—the Farewell Handicap (harness)— brought out 10 starters, with most ; money available for the scratch horse, Specialist, and then in the order of letting followed Alf. McKlnney. Ngaraima, rhyllistina, Bingana, Royal Victor, and Undine. The darkness came down as the horses went to the post., and it was almost impossible to distinguish the colours of the drivers. However, a great finish resulted, with Undine just snatching a head victory from Royal Victor, with Ngaraima a short neck away third. The favourite and Bingana collided going along the bottom {urn, and this spoilt the former's chance of success, otherwise lie must have be?n with the leaders vat the finish. Not a single favourite won during the afternoon, two finishing second, one fourth, one sixth, two seventh, one eighth, while one pulled up. HXWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB'S ■ .: AUTUMN MEET ING. .
