WEST COAST TIMBER TRADE.
A GLOOMY OUTLOOK. [M TBUSGBAPH.— AfISOCUTIOJr.] . Wellington, Friday. Them is a note of pessimism about the Labour Department's monthly report on labour conditions in the Grcymouth district. Th© congestion of shipping in Australian ports has, it seems, seriously interfered with the output of timber on tho coast. In consequence of this all the mills cutting white pine for the Australia® Trade have their «skids full up .of timber and no means are afforded them to relieve the congestion. Owing to the protracted delivery- of orders three mills have clewed down, and two more are expected to close in a few days. What is a more serious feature of the industry ia the falling off in orders foe red pino timber. This heretofore marketable commodity has palled on the timber market to an extraordinary degree, and the millers are feeling it acutely. Both employers and employees are much concerned about the. present outlook.
