CHEQUE FOR OVER £5,000,000. London, April 18. The purchase of the Union Castle Mail Steamship Company shares by the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company of London, and Messrs. Elder, Dempster and Co., of Liverpool, has been concluded. . A cheque for over £5,000,000 has been handed over to Messrs. Donald, Currie and Co., of London, proprietors of the Union - Castle line, in connection with the' transfer.' This cheque is the second largest on record.
