FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS.
A GLUT OF FRUIT. Since last report the market, especially for fruit, has been very unsatisfactory, At the beginning of the week there were indications of a serious decline in prices, wluch pom to a temporary glut, and purchasers appeared overstocked. These indications were confirmed later in the week, and heavier' consignments coming to hand, 1 sales have been difficult to make. Supplies continued excessive at the end of the week, and low prices ruled throughout. A_ slight recovery, however, has been made with respect to hothouse grapes. The Tofua, from Tonga, is now due, but only very light shipments of Island fruit are expected. The Hauroto, with bananas from Fiji, is expected about the middle of next week. The market is again bare, awl good prices aro anticipated. Tomatoes have advanced again, owing to South, em growers holding back . supplies in anticipation of orders coming in from Sydney; consequently tho local market is being kept bare. Onions have advanced slightly on last week's values, large ship, ments having been made to Vancouver. Fresh eggs and butter are still scarce, and prices obtained are satisfactory to growers Poultry was in fairly good supply at satis', factory prices. : ■
