FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
TRAIN RUNS INTO TROLLEY. FOUR WORKMEN KILLED. By Telegraph.—rreas Association.—Copyright. (Received April 18, 5.40 p.m') Melbourne, April 18. A ttiaix at Warburton, a township 43 miles from Melbourne, crashed to-day into a trolley containing 16 men. Four of the men, named Deberdy, Hallam, Baxter,, and James, wero killed. Three of the othsr men were injured, two being seriously hurt. The others aresuffering from shock. A portion of the Warburton lino was being relaid. The ,men were proceeding in a trolley to their work, and were running down a deep incline near Wandin. The rain had made the lines slippery, and the men lost control of tho trolley, which ran on to a bridge just as tho train from Warburton rounded a curve. There was no time to avoid a collision. Two men. named Hayes and Ryan, jumped from the trolley and fell over the side of the bridge, and wero terribly injured. The other men were thrown in all directions. The train conveyed tho injured men to the Lilydale Hospital. (Reccired April 19, 12.5 a.m.) Later reports state that all the men, excepting the four who were killed, jumped off the trolley before the collision occurred. Baxter's body was carried for some distance by tho engine, and dropped over the bridge. He and Deberdy and James were recently-arrived immigrants. The trolley was smashed to atoms, and the engine was damaged.
