Owing to an increasing uneasiness regarding the enormous growth of th* United Kingdom's expenditure, the House of Commons, on the initiative of Mr. Lloyd-George (Chancellor of the Exchequer), has appointed a select committee to examine the Estimates. Mr. Lloyd-George maintained that the House had ceased to exercise control over the expenditure except in respect to defence.
