Sir,—Who is to be the Chief Magistrate? I tear that if the Mayor is defeated at this critical juncture, when he is barely half way through the baths, park, library, and street schemes, we shall have cause to rue it. Mr. Parr gave up a morally certain chalice of Parliament last year, so as to give his undivided attention to his city programme. We should be ingrates to reject him now. He has pledged himself that he can carry through these city improvements, which will make Auckland a model city, and this without increasing the rates. It would be well to give him the chance of fulfilling this, for if a new man bo brought in now, who has no experience, of the details or finance of these works, are we not courting almost certain trouble? RatepayerSir,No Mayor has done more for the workers' wives and children than Mr. Parr, and it is extraordinary to find the heads of some of the Labour organisations opposing him. In freeing tho city from plague by his energy last winter, and demolishing over 100 slum tenements occupied by working people in his term, he deserves the thanks of the wholo community. His proposal to establish , workers' homos on (he City Council property at Richmond is also sound, as, owing to the Council owning the land already, it will not entail any burden whatever on the ratepayers, as workers' homo schemes often do. Point Erin Park is tho best thing that has been done yet for the wives and children of Auckland, and will remain a memorial for all time to the present Mayor's foresight. I feel sure the sensible worker will think twice before he votes against a tried and capable man. Worker-
