TEACHERS' CERTIFICATES.

THE NEW REGULATIONS.

[BY TELEGRAPH, PRESS ASSOCIATION,] Dcnedin, Wednesday. At a meeting of the Otago Education Board to-day it was decided that while fully appreciating tho aim of the Department- under the new regulations for teachers' certificates, the Board points out that the bringing into immediate operation of the regulations would impose injustice and hardship on candidates who have been engaged on preparation for the examinations under the old regulations, and suggest that the new regulations bo not enforced on teachers who have already partially completed their present courses.

The Board also decided to urge that the regulations be relaxed, so as to meet the special circumstances of uncertificated teachers in the service who are seeking to obtain certificates, the Board being strongly of opinion that the requirement to take 11 subjects in one year imposes too great a strain on those engaged in teaching all day.
