SPORTS AT INVERCARGILL. tBT TELEGRAPH. —I>«ESS ASSOCIATION. J Invercargill, Wednesday. Tho Irish athletic sports were held to-day in good' weather. There were 4000 peoplo present, with large fields and good contests. Entries came from all over the South Island. The following are the results of tho big events: — St. Patrick's Sheffield Handicap, 135 yds, £40, and Sir Joseph Ward's gold medal: F. C. MacCalman (Christchurch), 12yds, 1; £7, J. .1. Livesev (Rivorton), 12ivds, 2; £3. EJ. Bartlott (invercargill), 13yds, 3: £1 10s, R, Pedlar (Invercargill), 11yds. Time, 13 3-ss. Won by half-a-yard, with a foot between second and third. 75yds: F. C. MacCalman (Christchurch) and G. J. Bart left (Invercargill) dead-heat, 1; V. Wise (Christchurch), 3. The men decided to ruu off, when MacCalman won easily. In tho 120 yds hurdles Gerald Koddell put up a good performance. Tho distance was onlv llsyds, which Keddell, starting 30yds behind scratch, covered in 18s. dead. Tho actual distance run 'by Keddell was 145ycls, which works out at a shade over 15 l-ss. for 120 yds. Tho champion has not had a shoe on since tho New Zealand amateur championship, on which occasion he was far from well, and it was with difficulty that ho came out to-day. BOMBAY ATHLETIC SPORTS. The Bombay athletic sports will be held on Saturday next. Special arrangements have been made for the enjoyment of visitors.
