HOW TO WASH WHITE GLOVES

Gloves made of thick white suede and doeskin arc- very fashionablo this season, and specially convenient, because, if treated properly, they will wash at home, so that the expense of cleaning is saved.

Skin gloves of any kind should never bo washed in hot water, for this hardens them. Neither should they bo washed upon the hands, as some people think correct, for this causes them to stretch and tear. s

Prepare a basin of cold water containing half a teaspoonful of ammonia and a little piece of chopped soap or a pinch of soap powder. Beat this to a lather. Lay the "■loves in, and squeeze and beat them till all the dirt comes away, but bo careful not to rub or wring them at all. Do not rinse them, as it is important that the soap should be left in them, so that it may soften the loather.

Wrap the gloves in a towel, and wring the towel to force out as much water as possible. Hang them up in (.he air to dry. They must not be put near a fire. Take care not to touch them till they are perfectly dry, for, by doing so, you would be likely to leave finger-marks on the skin.

Gloves should be mended before washing as holes grow larger so very quickly during the process of laundering. Thin suede and white kid gloves will not wash at all in water. They should be washed in petrol, care being taken that the petrol is not used in a room where there is a light or fire, as it is so very inflammable..
