BUSINESS GIRLS AND THEIR DRESS.
lam filled with admiration—in a restricted- |, sense—for a large section of the great array., of girl workers known generally as "busr \ ness girls." The intense "joie de vine - of the section I refer to amazes me, for I have never yet seen two or three together who are not'literally bubbling over with spirits. But what I admire most about them is the extraordinary' rapidity,:■;;.. v, with which they seize every new and at* tractive fashion and make it their own,, They at least understand the art of dress? ing* becomingly. Doubtless their appear* : : ance v sometimes seems slightly bizarre . -/ and out of place, but they manage to look far more attractive than if dressed in th» •, sober good taste that is really correct for *. city life. ' ■• ■ ■ And, after all, why shouldn't they wea* their strings of beads, their elbow sleeves, . their. particularly smart shoes and stock" ~ . ing£, and their' collarless blouses? W criticising them as "out of place" one is • apt to forget that they might perhaps .; rarely bo able to wear their pretty clothes. : at till if they had to wait for the suitable time and place in the critical sense of the term. And one cannot but admire,; the unerring instinct which leads them to appropriate every charming novelty, even though they wear it to such an extent that >; in a very short time it becomes overdone v and unfashionable.— Newton, in the London Leader.
