CUSTOMS AND EXPORTS.

SEVERAL INCREASES.

RETURNS FOR FEBRUARY.

The net Customs deities collected at the port of Auckland during tho month of February amounted to £67,530. In February, 1911, tho amount, , excluding surtax (£1122) was " £52,403, so that last month showed an increase in revenue of £15,127. Surtax has disappeared from the books of the Department, except for the most casual occurrences, and it only appears on the returns for February, because a refund of 12s 6d had to be made. Tho beer duty during tho past month was £2699 last year it was £232. The gold exported last month amounted to 23,5420z, worth £91,517, as compared with 19,0180z, worth £79,098, in February, 1911. Silver exports for the month are shown as 159,0130z, worth £16,139, as against 54,4470z, worth £5407, last year. The exports for the month show an increase of nearly £43,000 as compared with the total for the preceding February. Cheese, hides, tallow, wool, gold, and kauri gum all show a considerable increase when placed beside the figures for 1911. The following table shows the value of the principal commodities exported during February, with figures for comparison for the two preceding years:-— .
