NORFOLK ISLAND NEWS.

[FROM or* OWN' coBREsroKKENT.] Norfolk Island, February 15. The new island chaplain, the Rev. A. J. Greenwood, with his wife and family, arrived by the Malaita, and will succeed Archdeacon Comins in the chaplaincy. Mr. Greenwood was instituted into the position by the Bishop's Commissary, Archdeacon Cullwick, on Sunday, 11th inst. Several of tho mission clergy took part in the service, which was very impressive. The Church of England parishioners gave Archdeacon Comins a farewell party in tho Kawson Hall. Although the weather was unfavourable, the large hall was filled, and everything passed off successfully. The chief magistrate and Mrsv Elliot, Archdeacon Commissary and Mrs. Oullwick, Dr. and Mrs. Metcalfe, and most of tho island officials were present. An address and purse was presented to the archdeacon and eulogistic speeches were made by several present. Mr. Joseph Kobbs, a son of the late Mr. Johnstone Nobbs, and Miss Mary Buffetfc, I a daughter of ' Mr. Lindsay Buffett, were married in the Town Church by Archdeacon Comins. The church was crowded, and afterwards Mr. Buffetfc entertained a large , pirty at his house at Steele's Point. The weather continues to bo exceptionally dry and hot, and all herbage is drying up. The corn, however, is turning out vory , well, and some good crops have been gar- , nered.

The Special Pastoral Court held its annual sitting recently, and it is reported that great changes aro in view with regard to the depasturing of stock, as a result of the report of tho stock inspector, who lately visited tho island.
