A strange accident happened in Here-ford-street, botween High'-street and Man-chester-street, this afternoon. Two horses, attached to a van belong. ing to tho New Zealand Express Company, bojted down tho street at a gallop. ' In their career, they reached tho end of a long lino of taxi-cabs pulled up on tho stand there. As soon as the horses came closo to tho last taxi-cab they tried to go on each side of it. Tho result was that one of the horses ran along tho right side of tho cab, but the. other one dashed into the back of it with head and shoulders. The back of the car was splintered, iron work being twisted in all directions. Tho 'orco of the impact thrust the cab forward. It collided violently with tho cab in front, and in that way three of tho cabs wero telescoped. The first and second wero somewhat- severely damaged and the third to. a less degree, while a fourth had its rear lamps crumpled up. Tho driver in tho first cab had a very narrow escape from being badly injured. A passer-by, who saw tho horses coming, cried out to him, and lie just had time to jump out of his cab before the collision took place. The horses were uninjured.
