Her ExcßJjacr Um Islington attended the morning service at St. Matthew Church, yesterday. Mr H. Francis, of Fremantle, arrived by the Maheno yesterday, and is staying at the Royal Hotel. Mr T. E. Heat, a visitor from Sydney. arrived yesterday by the Maheno, and is staying at tho Star Hotel. Mr. Allan Hamilton, the well-known theatrical proprietor, arrived from Sydney by the Maheno yesterday. Mr. C. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs at* Wellington, is at present on a visit to Auckland, and is staying at the Koyal Hotel. The Hon. and Mrs. Mowbray St. John, of tho Waikato, arrived by the larawera yesterday, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr E. A. Porter, of Melbourne, arrived by the Maheno yesterday. Mr. Porter intends to tour the Dominion. He is staying for the present at the Star Hotel. Messrs. J. W. Alexander, J. Simpson, E J F Coad, A. E. Cummings, W. b. Jiirks. and W. M. Hammond, visitors from Sydney, arrived by the Maheno yesterday, and are staying at "the Royal Hotel. Messrs. Lucas and Harlock, two English, tourists, were passengers by the Maheno. which arrived yesterday. Ihey will be joined bv two other English tourists in a few days, and leave on a fishing excursion to Lake Taupo. The Voiv Rev. Father OTonnell, Superior of "the Mari-st Missionaries, arrived bv the Maheno from Sydney yesterday, and is the guest of Monsignor Gillaii, of St. Benedict's. Fathers Wright and Ormond, who have been transferred to Waiuku and Devonport parishes respectively, have each been presented with an illuminated address anil a set 01 vestments by the parishioners of St. Patrick's Cathedral. Bandmaster J. Gilchrist, who is leaving the Waihi district, was on Friday evening presented bv the members and committee of the Waihi Federal Brass Band with a handsome silver cigarette case as an appreciation of his services to the band. Messrs. H. Shaw and G. W. Hutchinson were passengers for Wellington by the Main Trunk express Inst night. They will attend the annual meeting of tho Actuaries and Auditors' Association of New Zealand, to be held in the capital city. Mr. W. H. Hemes. M.P. for Tauranga, paid a weekend visit to Auckland in connection with the illness of his wife, who is at present in a private hospital. Mr. Herries left for Wellington again last night by the Main Trunk express. Mr. Nisei Crompton, engineer, who is the son of Colonel Crompton, engineer for the Road Board of England, arrived from Sydney by the Maheno yesterday. Mr. Crompton* has been sent by the British Tarroads Company of London to assist Mr. John Ross to inaugurate the system of bituminous bound heated stone macadam, which is being adopted by the Newmarket Borough Council. Mr. Wm. Handler (Mayor of Devonport) met with an accident while on an official visit to Rangitoto Island on Saturday for the purpose of visiting the newly - discovered caves. He stepped on a loose volcanic rock, and fell heavily, his hands and face being cut by contact with tie jagged scoria rocks. The flow of blood was stopped, and after recovery from the shock of the fall be was none the worse for the unpleasant incident beyond a slight disfigurement. r - : '£
