From Gisborne, for which port she left Wellington on Friday evening, the Kowhai takes a load of sheep to Lyttelton. On Sunday next the Tyser liner Star of Scotland is due' at Wellington from Southern ports, and sails ;i day or two later for London. The Tvser liner Muritai is expected to leave Napier lor Wellington to-day. Home loading will be completed at the Southern port and departure taken for London on Thursday. The Maoriland Company's steamer Holmdale is loading at Picton for Onehunga. She will subsequently load timber at the. Manukau for Wellington, and later will load at Picton for a Northern timber port. j To-morrow morning the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Otaki is to leave Wellington for Auckland. Homeward loading will bo completed here and departure taken for London about Friday next. The Union Company's big cargo steamer Waihcra is now on her way from Lytteiton to Sydney with * full cargo of "oats and chaff. After discharging at Sydney the Waihora goes to Newcastle to load coal for Lyttelton. The small steamer John, 342 tons, arrived at Lvttelton yesterday morning from Bunbury with a cargo of jarrah. The John was purchased in England by Capialn Holm, of Wellington, who brought the vessel out for the New Zealand coastal trade. On Friday the Union Company's Manuka visited Wellington as an intercolonial steamer for the last time. The vesser withdraws at Sydney from the service, and will enter the San Francisco trade in place of the Maitai. The Manuka is to Ipave Sydney on March 23 and Wellington on March 23 for San. McLean, arrived at Auckland at 3.30 p.m. yesterday and berthed at the Queen-street j Wharf, where medical inspection was carried out. I The passage from Sydney was a slow one, occupyins: four days one hour actual steaming time. Leaving the New South Wales port at I p.m. on Wednesday last, the vessel experienced fine weather, with light variable winds, to arrival. Cape Maria Van Diemen wag passed at 11 o'clock on Saturday night, the vessel rounding the North Capo two hours later. The Maheno Hails on the return voyage to Sydney at 5.30 p.m. to-day. THE TARAWERA ARRIVES. At noon yesterday the Union Company's steamer Tarawera, Captain O. McLean, arrived from Southern and East Coast ports after a tine weather passage. She berthed at the new Queenstreet Wharf. The purser reports that departure was taken from Dunedin on the afternoon of February 20, the usual calls being made at way porta en route. On the return voyage the Tarawera sails at 2 p.m. to-morrow for Southern ports. THE IONIC AT WELLINGTON. An arrival at Wellington on Saturday morning was the Shaw, SavUJ and Albion Company's RMS. lonic from London, via Capetown and Hobart. The vessel "brought 576 first, second, and third-class passengers for all porta of the Dominion, including 152 booked for Auckland. The Auckland contingent, together with baggage and cargo, will probably come on by the Mokoia, which is due here on Thursday "morning. TRANSHIPMENTS. In addition to a largo general cargo, tho Maheno, which arrived from Sydney yesterday, brought transhipments ex tho following vessels:— Orsova, Otway, Kyarra, Marienfels, Kyana, Indrapura, Cooma, Frederich der (Jrosse, ilagen, Adelaide, Varzin, Wyandra, Coocyana, Burrcmbcet, Karitane, and Karoola. ARRIVAL OF THE INDRAPURA. On her maiden voyage to the Dominion the now Tyser liner Indrapura arrived at Auckland at 9.30 a.m. yesterday from London, via Australian ports, and berthed at the new Queenstreet Wharf, where she was tho object of much interest during the day. The Indrapura is in some respects similar to the Indrabarah, but seVeral additions and improvements have been introduced. The gross tonnage of the Indrapura is about 10,000, her leading dimensions being 506 ft overall, 61ft broad, and 44ft deep to the shelter-deck. She is classed 100 Al at Lloyd's, but has been built in excess of the actual requirements of Lloyd's. Amidships there is spacious and very comfortable accommodation for the captain and officers and a do/jen first-class passengers. Three of the capacious holds and 'tween-decks have been insulated with charcoal, tho work being carried out by the shipbuilders. In order to handle the cargoes with rapidity, a specially large equipment of winches has been provided, end also an equipment of Imperial flarelights'. The twin-screw engines by tho Wallsend Slipway and Engineering Company have cylinders 23iin. 39in, and 66in, with 48in stroke, developing 6200 indicated horse-power. There we five single-ended boilers, with a working pressure of 2001b per square inch and fitted with Howden a forced draught. The Indrapura left the Royal Albert Docks, London, on December 22 with 14,000 tons of cargo under hatches, which is the largest cargo ever shipped from London by one ship. Sho arrived at Las Falmas on December 29, and after coaling resumed her voyage the following day. Rounding the Cape of Good Hope tho vessel ' encountered heavy weather, which lasted five davs, increasing to a strong southeast gale. Heavy seas were shipped, the water breaking on board fore and aft, but no damage was done, and tho Indrapura rode out the storm in a styl" which stamps her as an excellent sea boat Arriving at Melbourne on February 2, sho discharged 4COO tons of cargo and then proceeded to Sydney, where 3700 tons were discharged. She cleared Sydney at 7 a.m. on February 21 for Auckland, and marie the run across in the fair time of four days, at an average speed of 13.5 knots. On the run from Las Palmas to the Capo of Good Hope she averaged 14.5 knots. • The Indrapura has 6000 tons of general merchandise to discharge here, after which sho goes to Napier aid Wellington to put out the balance.
