ROBBED AT A DANCE.
FASHIONABLE GUESTS SEARCHED. Wiiilk a dance, attended by the society leaders of New York and Philadelphia, has taking place at the Country Club at Lakowood, a lady moved suddenly to the centre of the ballroom, raised her arm, and demanded that tho doors should bo locked, excitedly explaining that a dia-mond-studded bag containing over £100 had been stolen from a chair where she had left it not five minutes before. She. demanded that a personal search should be made, and pointed to two gentlemen who were comparative stranger** to Lakowood. One of the two smiJinglv expressed his perfect willingness to submit to a search, while tho other declared that such a search would be an outrage and an insult *? the friend who introduced him. l'inally both gentlemen followed the committee to an adjoining room. They wore searched without result. The incident put a sudden end to the festivities and caused many of the <' U ests to depart indignantly for New York. 3 The thief has not been discovered.
