I _ Matters are progressing favourably fof the autumn carnival of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club, and an oxcep--1 tonally largo number of runners are in I active training for the gathering next Saturday. /the entries for all events are large, and ' given fine weather there should be a record attendance of the, public. The 100 yds and 440 yds Auckland- provincial championships will come up for decision, and keen interest is being taken in the training of the various competitor!'. J. It. Simpson, the present lOOvds champion, ts running well, though perhaps not up to last year's for™. L .!. Mark, who has six firsts to his credit so tar tins season, is running exceptionally well, and should go very clo.-c to winning. J. Gardiner and 11. Robertson an; also in pood *°"P. and with J. J. Mulvihill and b. is. Reul (Hamilton) also in the field, tho winner is very hard to pick. The 440 yds championship should also provide a good contest, and with A. W. Dormor. the New Zealand champion, in the field it should be doubly interesting. In securing the visit of Jack Donaldson and Arthur B. Postle, two of the greatest sprinters in the world, who will meet in ' 't three sprint races, the committee has made history in professional athletics in New Zealand.
