V 1 Giving evidence before the Sugar Commission, a witness stated that the Colonial and Millaquin companies always raised and lowered prices simultaneously. This suggested an understanding. A number of wholesale merchants dc« clared that they dealt largely with the Colonial Company's sugar, and profit was practically nil. Tho sugar duty was generally condemned.
In contradiction of a witness jtfco chairman declared that in evidence in North] Queensland it was stated that the country; was suitable for nothing but sugar. Rice' cotton, dairying, had been tried,, butj had failed.
