COMING TO NEW ZEALAND.

By Telegraph Press Association.—Copyrijrht. London, February 22. Mr. John Baillie has sent to New Zealand 500 representative British pictures, valued at £20,000, to be exhibited for a month each in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin municipal galleries.

The Christchurch Society of Arts (telegraphs our special correspondent) recently arranged to purchase £1000 worth of pictures in En -land, but has decided to postpone any English purchases until its representativ s have inspected at Wellington the col clionsent by Mr. ISaillie. It is noteworthy in connection with the proposal to establish a national gallery in Wellington that the usual annual subsidy of £500 to the Christchurch Society of Arts has not been forthcoming this year.
